Digital Sewing Pattern + Video Class Windward Dress Sewing Pattern - Women's/Curved Fit 0-38/A-T

I haven't made this one yet, but my 17-year-old did and she loved the pattern! Easy to understand and a quick sew, she says. She used a good-quality 100% cotton fabric and made her dress tea length; the drape is just gorgeous.

The attention to detail in this pattern is amazing. It has a faced lining and options for a fully lined skirt. The darts make for a great fit and the side ties are a great way to adjust it for comfort. I received the pattern as part of the Sew and Show team.

I generally find T&T patterns very high quality and this is no exception.

The dress is a beautiful design with quite clever construction techniques for a neat finish. Everything laid out clearly in photo step by step instructions and also accompanying video of the trickier steps.

I’m quite luckily their bodice block fits me quite well (i’m usually a size D with minimal alterations) so never have to do much drastic fitting changes but they have extensive info in the tutorial around this should you need it.

I love the side lacing which gives fit flexibility while being a gorgeous design feature in its own right, and of course it comes with satisfyingly large pockets.

This dress is a dream to wear, and I loved the incredibly lovely lining. It's definitely an intermediate level pattern, which I really appreciated as I love the opportunity to level up my sewing skills but with detailed, supportive instructions.

This dress feels, wears and looks like a fairytale!

It takes a bit of time to construct x and I recommend making a toile for fit, but when you take your time to sew this dress you have so many options for styling and wearing. You can wear it on its own, but it works wonderfully as a pinafore as well!

I made mine in linen for summer, but I already plan making one in wool for winter, it’s so delightful!

The Windward Dress was such a rewarding sew. It has some more challenging details, but the instructions are explained so beautifully that every step felt achievable and enjoyable.

The finished dress is incredibly flattering on all body shapes, and I especially love how thoughtfully it's designed to accommodate natural fluctuations in our bodies throughout the day. It's comfortable without compromising on style.

Not only is the dress absolutely beautiful, but I genuinely feel beautiful every time I wear it. It's one of those special patterns that gives you confidence as both a maker and the person wearing it.

The Windward dress is the next offering in T+T's new historical garment direction. Like those before, it is more complicated than previous patterns, however the level of instruction is every bit as good as T+T has ever been, making this completely manageable for an intermediate sewist. I wouldn't recommend it as a first, or perhaps even fourth pattern, given the complexity of some of the techniques. However, with a few other garments under your belt, this pattern becomes a great skill builder, providing the opportunity to learn some gorgeous enclosed seam techniques, including the burrito method.

Made in different materials and lengths, this pattern could be the basis for anything from a super fun beach dress, up to even a wedding dress! I would love to see someone make this in lace over linen or satin for their wedding. The structure and elegance are certainly sufficient for the finest occasions, while the pull-on style makes it so, so comfortable to wear.

I made mine from a very crisp vintage cotton and self lined the bodice, while I used a super lightweight linen to line the skirt. I wore it for most of a whole day, choosing not to change even after coming home because I didn't feel the need to. It is so comfortable! I felt like a princess wearing it, but also didn't feel overdressed at church.

As soon as I saw the Windward, it was one of those MUST SEW patterns. The romantic silhouette, the thoughtful details—it was the perfect way to slow down this summer (and beat the heat). The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the finishes are beautifully clean. This is the perfect pattern if you want to add a little fairy tale magic to your every day!
