Digital Pattern + Video Class Overland Cloak Sewing Pattern - Adult

This was my first purchase from Twig and Tale, and it was so worth it. Not only are the pattern instructions easy to follow, the design is very well thought out and can be transformed for kids or adults.

I wore this cloak to a fantasy event with friends and received so many compliments. Mine was made out of linen and looked fantastic.

I made this cape in what can only be described as a sewing marathon (11 hours in one day—learn from my mistakes 😅), and overall I’m really happy with the final result.

The pattern itself creates a beautiful, wearable piece with a lovely drape. It works especially well for natural-fibre fabrics like linen or cotton blends, and the finished look feels both practical and a little storybook, which I loved.

That said, this is not a “switch your brain off and go” project—especially when you’re tired.

A few things to watch:
•The centre back and side panels can be easy to misalign if you’re not paying close attention.
•It’s very possible to accidentally sew pieces together incorrectly if you’re rushing (ask me how I know).
•Attaching the lining and outer pieces requires careful seam tracking—double check before stitching.

Tips for future makers:
•Label your pieces clearly before starting!
•Lay everything out and visually confirm placement before sewing each seam.

Despite my chaos, the pattern does come together correctly when followed carefully, and the final garment is absolutely worth it.
I’ve already worn mine out and received multiple compliments.

Would recommend—just take your time and don’t rush the construction.

I'm an experienced hobbyist sewist. I found this pattern easy to follow with lots of tips and helps to make my cloak look professional. 10/10 would recommend!

I was immediately attracted to this garment, but I knew I wouldn't wear it. My best friend's eyes lit up when I said i was contemplating making this. So... As an experienced quilter, and a novice garment maker, I had difficulties with fashioning the pocket opening on one side only. Otherwise, I give this a solid 2 thumbs up and would make more if there was a demand.

I have not yet made this pattern and am still searching for the right fabric. I have Printed and assembled it and both steps were easy and worked perfectly. I have read the assembly instructions several times and I am confident that when I do find some suitable fabric, that I can handle the sewing part pretty well. I am making this for a very tall, large woman and I am so pleased that the pattern includes all sizes from very small to very much plus size.

Made this cool cloak for my 10 year old daughter who loves the Tolkien stories. It is very easy to make, it is simply a LOT of fabric (to potentially get lost in).
My only issue was just one line on the height of the lining. Tip: Just do what they say and make the seam at the height of the notch. I sort of read over it and left it at that, until it was closing/finishing time. I then ended up attaching it to the outer fabric and leaving an opening at the side to turn the cloak through. It went through beautifully, but the lining is now pulling the outer fabric up a bit. A shame. So, either do what it says in the instructions, or cut out a longer lining and fold about 4 cm to give room for the outer fabric. But, cool stuff!

Pattern was easy to understand and to make. I made mine from felted wool, without lining. Worked perfectly in Finnish Lapland icy heights as extra layer on top of woolshirt when its was very windy and -20 celsius. It also goes perfectly with my woolen riding skirt, whitout with I never go hiking in the winter time.

Great pattern and instructions, everything fit well and seams aligned smoothly with the hood attachment taking a bit of care pinning from the center out to the edges. Was a fun challenge for a first sewing project and was the perfect finishing touch for my renaissance festival costume. 🏰

I am just finishing this cloak for my adult son. I haven't sewn clothing in many years and was quite apprehensive but the instructions and video were excellent! Very happy with the finished product.

Haven’t made it yet . On the hunt for the right material!
