Suggested Fabrics
The weight of the fabric will play a big part in the ease of sewing.
This pattern is designed for nonstretch woven fabrics only - we recommend using quilting cotton or fabric of a similar weight or lighter weight. Cotton, linen, poplin, viscose rayon, lightweight chambray, flannel, lightweight wool suiting and dupion silk are all suitable. Please note: It is NOT recommended to use thicker fabrics (drill, corduroy, denim, canvas, velvet, blanket etc.) as they make the basket and hood too thick to sew through in certain areas where there are many layers.
Interfacing: Using an interfacing which is not sturdy enough will result in a floppy basket. The interfacing needs to be medium-heavy weight. We use Formfuse 1600f which works beautifully. Pellon 809 Decor Bond and Legacy 809, were also trialled in testing and found to be suitable. (Birch heavyweight non-woven is not sturdy enough.) Interfacing is critical to prevent the hoods from becoming floppy with use. Please don’t skip the interfacing!

- Heavyweight fusible interfacing - Formfuse 1600f or equivalent
- Heavyweight sew-in (non-fusible) interfacing. You need to be able to see your pattern template through the interfacing. If you cannot source sew-in interfacing - you can use fusible and just don’t fuse it.
- Batting - anything from 5mm - 20mm is suitable
- Strong sewing machine needle such as a super sharp/microtex size 90 or denim (jeans) needle. *We recommend starting with a new needle.
- A marker to trace the template onto the sew-in interfacing. The marker needs to be bold enough to be seen from the wrong side.
