Sometimes a sweet, simple pattern can make for the most fun and satisfying sew. We think our new Alpine Hat Collection ticks all the boxes: quick, easy to make, and so very cute. These hats are also perfect for upcycling sweaters or small pieces of stretch knit fabric.
With four styles and a full range of sizes from preemie to adult, we'll be making these hats for the whole family, and think they'll make lovely gifts too.
The Alpine Hat Collection includes four styles that are all so quick and simple to sew, you could whip up a batch of them in no time. The collection includes:
- The Alpine Knot Hat, with two knots
- The Alpine Pompom Hat, with two pompoms
- The Alpine Tie-Top Hat, with a single knot (the big kid/adult sizes of this style feature a slouchy fit)
- The Alpine Tassel Hat, with two tassels or braided ties
The styles in the collection are available for purchase separately, or as a Bundle of all the Alpine Hats, which includes a bonus free Newborn Mitten pattern.
We designed the Alpine hats with upcycling in mind. Each pattern includes instructions for making a hat from an upcycled sweater and also for making a banded version from stretch knit fabric.
Our favourite way to make them is to use a super-soft merino or cashmere sweater, with the ribbing as the hat band for a warm, cosy, wooly hat - so quick and simple! Stretch knits, such as merino wool, or organic cotton lycra work beautifully for the banded version.
The Alpine Pompom hat includes instructions for making your own pompoms from yarn or faux fur, while the Alpine Tassel Hat includes instruction for making both tassels and braided ties.
We just love these whimsical little details that are fun to make and add so much personality to the hats.
This really is a simple pattern to sew and would be appropriate for absolute beginner sewers.
The pattern for each hat style includes a full range of sizes from preemie to adult. The pdf pattern includes detailed instructions, with photo and video tutorials for each step of the process, including videos for making the "extras" like pompoms and tassels.
The layered pdf file allows you to select just the size(s) you would like to print, and includes an A4 format for home printing.
We hope that you enjoy sewing the Alpine Hat Collection. They are such a quick and satisfying make - a small investment of time and fabric for a very cute and versatile hat!
